Tom Jones/ The Killergroove Formula – MFM Classics Vol. 3 – The Lonely One/ Peter Gunn

£8.49

Coinciding with the release of Volume 9 in the successful CD compilation series Music For Modern Living here is the DJ companion, selected by compilers and label owners Mellow & Rivera.
Tom Jones’ “The Lonely One” and The Killergroove Formula’s “Peter Gunn (Turntable Detective)” are a 60s soul bunrer and a 21st century retro breaks slammer, sitting perfectly next to each other on this 12inch vinyl, released as part 3 in the series MFML Classics. “The Lonely One” (1967) by Tom Jones is a forgotten, but extremely effective swingin’ and shakin’ dancefloor burner, only available as a B-side of the Decca 7″ “I’m coming home” … until now. Written by the unmistable Gordon Mills, who already wrote “It’s not unusual” especially for Jones in 1965 and scored a massive worldwide hit. Conducted by the legendary Johnny Harris and produced by Peter Sullivan “The Lonely One” gets the floor moving.
The Killergroove Formula chose “Peter Gunn (Turntable Detective)”, originally conceived by Henry Mancini for the US TV series “Peter Gunn” in 1958. Lars Moston, AndrÈ Nentwig and Jens “Der Wolf” Albert, the ever active breaks crew from M¸nster/Germany, breathe life back into television detective Peter Gunn. Note the funky theme – it is an original sample from the East German beat combo Franke Echo Quartett from the sixties, proving the underground was surely swinging in those dark communist days of the German Democratic Republic!
