Soil And Pimp – AIE (Cobblestone Jazz Remix)

The masters of in your face Jazz serve up a typically funky and frenzied affair for this, the second single taken from their latest album, ‘Pimpoint’. The band share song writing duties on the album and A.I.E showcases the enormous writing and playing abilities of pianist Josei. Picking out a beautifully playful, tumbling melody, his keys slice through the wall of noise to star alongside the horns at the front of the track. It’s loud, it’s fun, it’s furious and the playing is maestro standard: just how SOIL & “PIMP” SESSIONS like it. And if you thought it couldn’t get any heavier than the original, Tugg’s Walking Beat Edit is a storming re-edit. Better known as the drummer for Basement Jaxx, Tugg shows his true colours here, adding ridiculously heavy drums that power this already high-energy track along. Dancers beware. Head-knodders beware. Next up on remix duty is Cobblestone Jazz, the Canadian duo making a lot of noise with their improvised experiments in minimal roots techno. As comfortable with jazz as they are with electronica and with a deep understanding of both, this was a remix bound to work. And it does. Cobblestone Jazz soften some of the spikier edges of the track and warm it up. They pair back some parts, introduce new layers and a bubbling bassline and give A.I.E the full dubbed-out electronic treatment as only they can. A juicy piece of new vinyl from Brownswood.
