The Natural Yogurt Band – Away With Melancholy

The Natural Yogurt Band are a modern day act, who happen to make music that sounds like it’s been exhumed from some ancient vault.

The production is measured extremely well, lining itself up with the aesthetics of yesteryear by heating up the drums brilliantly and panning instruments hard into a single stereo channel – that sort of thing.

The fact that these guys are clearly highly accomplished musicians does not hurt either, and certain pieces like ‘Latin Illusion’ benefit from wild woodwind soloing, while the reggae-tinged ‘A Broken Rose’ flares up with vibraphone and some searing organ solos coloured by battered tube compression sounds. A great faux-vintage recording, filled with musty old breaks and nicely-penned instrumentals.
