Junip – Black Refuge EP (With Jose Gonzalez)

Debut ep from post rock musician Jose Gonzalez new band Junip.  Opening with the title track, Junip combine a deconstructive sensibility with a kind of 60’s psychedelic set up of electronic keyboards,organ, strings, acoustic guitar and Gonzales plaintive vocal to make something considered and deep with a psychedelic touch.  At times it’s reminicent of Gravenhurst but with a gentler more acoustic dusty touch.  Strangely there is a cover version of Bruce Springsteens ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad to round things off.
