Patchworks – Sugar EP

You remember that brilliant ëSugarí track by Patchworks from the second edition of Cukiís Destination:Out do you? Címon you know it! It featured Amp Fiddler characterizing vocals, in fact he entirely reworked the original version into a deep soul cut. He kept the melody, played with the beats add some distortion, and of course his own Rhodes, B3ís and typical vocals. Itís exciting to hear the original, which is damn strong on its own as well. Faster beats, haunting b-snares, and the same swinging guitars def. got me over their side! Both the highly groovy original and soulful edit are featured on this first EP from the Chicago based Still Music label. Maybe because I played that ëSugarí track over and over, ëDown To The Valleyí sounds even better today! Once again deep bassline, sweet coddling (female) vocals and celestial keys convert Patchworksís genius. On the flip Bruno Hovart (aka Patchworks) goes deep with ëShoutslyí, deeper than his previous house efforts (like ëCorn Breadí) on Q-Tape, maybe thatís got to do with the ascent of the Still Music label. Excellent stuff & a warm welcome to this new label!
Memorize that name, because they have some delicious stuff scheduled. Markus Enochson remix from Sam & Gigi, Rick Wilhite (aka The Godson ñ think KDJ), more work from Camp Amp and a long player by Patchworks can be expected to come out on the label with the glasses as logo in the near future. Still Music is ran by a Jerome Derradji, Frenchman (so thatís the link to Parisian Patchworks) whoís working in Chicago as selector & sales manager for groovedis.
