Scratcha – The Jelly Roll EP
£5.99
After what seems like endless appearances on mixtapes and podcasts from those what know, DVA’s massively sought-after Jelly Roll at long last arrives on wax, albeit in a pitifully small run that’s sure to keep the minions searching for a copy not worn by excessive play. The twelve opens with the title track, a demented yet oddly playful Grime/UKF mashup that both unnervingly cute and amazingly heavy, applying an innate understanding of dancefloor machinations to a multicoloured exterior not often associated with the darkest edges of the club. If this were a one-track twelve it’d be big enough, but what you get for your dollar here are 3 more deadly workouts, starting with Funky deployment ‘Guro Triba’ complete with rolling snares and a killer padded bassline, and then two versions of “Nasty Nasty Nasty”, the first an unbelievable rework courtesy of Roska (surely the busiest man in UKF) who deploys a stripped club jam complete with subdued rave stabs and a vocal refrain that’ll stick in your head long after you’ve left the dance – BIG!!!! Massive twelve – get in while you can…
